Talgarno is a scattered farming community. From the Bethanga Bridge the road through Talgarno meanders for about 30 kilometres along the foreshore of Lake Hume.

Originally setted as a station about 1836, settlers took up land there in the late 1860's. Before the Hume Dam was built the Murray River was a fisherman's mecca.

Several old homesteads survive from 100 years ago. A wattle and daub house built by Reuben Williams in 1880 is still in good order and lived in. Talgarno is about a 25 minutes drive from Albury.
