| Towong Shire provides support in a number of ways to Recreational Organisations throughout the Shire. The first step for many is to check out our Recreation Strategy. A brief introduction is provided. | |
| Recreation Strategy | | Introduction In March 2005, Council commenced the development of a Recreation Strategy for the Shire. The focus of the project was to provide a sound strategic basis for the development, support and planning for sport and recreation throughout the Shire across a five year period.
Implicit to the strategy was that it: | |
| Consider current and future sport and recreation participation patterns and issues, as evidenced by local research and consultation findings. It also referred to broader State & National participation trends. |
| Understand that Towong Shire Council is one of many stakeholders that influence the quality, distribution and diversity of sport and recreation opportunities in the Shire of Towong. As such, a key area of focus for the project was that it identify opportunities for strengthening existing or developing new partnerships with other groups and organisations that influence sport and recreation in the Shire. |
| Position Council activities and priorities within the context of available and or achievable funding capacities. |
| Detail a 5 year implementation plan that outlines specific recommendations, resource requirements and proposed timeframes.
|
|
| Council engaged recreation planning consultant, Penny Wilkinson, to assist in the development of the Strategy. A draft Recreation Strategy was completed in September 2005 and a link to the full report is provided at the bottom of this page. | |
