| Local Tallangatta Secondary College graduate from the Mitta Valley, Tess Tobin, is the recipient of the Towong Shire Council’s 2009 Scholarship.
Tess will receive a grant of $5,000 in addition to paid work experience to support her University studies at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT); a five year university course comprising of a double degree; a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering and a Bachelor of Environmental Science.
“Council received a number of high quality applicants. Tess was an outstanding applicant and we believe her areas of study align closely with a number of key projects” said the Mayor, Mary Fraser
Tess completed her VCE with an ENTER score of 90.5 and received the Dux of VCE Chemistry, Accounting and Mathematical Methods. Tess also has a long list of sporting achievements, including being a representative in Eastern Zone Swimming. Tess has also completed a range of other qualifications to assist her with future employment prospects and has been an active community volunteer for several years; this was well regarded in the selection process.
Tess’s application highlighted consistent and excellent conduct and academic achievement throughout her schooling at Tallangatta Secondary College.
“I have always loved studying, sport and working with my community. I am really excited about the prospect of working with Towong Shire Council during my semester breaks and the opportunities it will provide. My degree choices are very relevant to local government and I look forward to furthering my understanding and knowledge,” said Tess Tobin
“Our Engineering Department looks forward to working with Tess to provide her some practical experience during her semester breaks. It is fabulous to see so much talent in our local area and we wish Tess every success with her studies,” said the Mayor.
