| More than 200 members and their horses from the Upper Murray Horseman’s Association have relocated from the Albury Equestrian Club to call Tallangatta Show Grounds their new home and central venue for future horse meets.
The Upper Murray Horseman’s Association conducts a range of activities, training days and clinics to promote horsemanship, networking and skill development.
Towong Shire Council welcomes the move to Tallangatta Show Grounds and has worked closely with the Upper Murray Horseman’s Association to obtain a grant to build a new round yard at the Show Grounds to cater for the association’s regular meetings and planned activities.
“Council is delighted to announce a $20,000 grant from the Department of Sport and Recreation to enable improved infrastructure at the Tallangatta Show Grounds. The funding will provide a new yard for all users of the Showgrounds 365 days of the year. It will include a panelled sand arena to meet National competition and training standards for horse enthusiasts.
The facility upgrade will make provision for further event attraction of this nature. This is a welcomed opportunity for our local businesses and community to participate” said Mayor, Mary Fraser, Towong Shire Council.
The Upper Murray Horseman’s Association runs a number of events throughout the region at Tallangatta, Corryong, Thurgoona, Merrijig, Yarrawonga, Barmah Forest, and Wodonga.
“It’s been great to move around the district to meet new communities and riders. Tallangatta is our preferred main venue as it caters for camping and a range of social activities that we are keen to pursue. The new yards and grant is just terrific bonus” said Ross Smith, President, Upper Murray Horse Association.
