Tallangatta Multi-Sport Precinct
The Tallangatta Multi-Sport Precinct located at Rowen Park, was borne out of extensive community consultation undertaken as part of the Tallangatta Tomorrow masterplanning process. The $1.386 million Precinct is funded by the Victorian Government ($874,468), Towong Shire Council ($400,000) and the local community ($112,000). The latter is also contributing up to $15,000 to cover kitchen items such as laminex benchtops, oven and fryer.
Tallangatta Tomorrow was facilitated by Melbourne based architects, Clarke Hopkins Clarke, and outlines a comprehensive masterplan for Tallangatta addressing retail, business, tourism, residential, environmental, social, sporting and recreational needs. The masterplan was adopted by Council at the August 2011 Council meeting with priority given to progress the Multi-Sport Precinct.
One of the priorities identified in the masterplan was the need for a new facility to cater for the various sporting and other community groups that used Rowen Park. The new Tallangatta Multi-Sporting Precinct incorporates an innovative and environmentally sustainable design providing improved amenities for a wide variety of sporting activities undertaken at the Park. In particular, the Tallangatta Multi-Sport Precinct provides change rooms for football, cricket, netball and swimming club usage. The building also includes a kitchen and function room for community use and hire.
This new community facility supports increased levels of participation through the provision of a positive recreational and sporting environment; an incentive for local people to get involved in recreational pursuits.
The development of the Tallangatta Multi-Sport Precinct is a Council Plan priority and will assist Council in achieving its vision to make Towong Shire ‘the ideal place to live’.
The Tallangatta Multi-Sport Precinct is supported by the general community, Tallangatta and District Football Netball League, Tallangatta Cricket Club, Cricket Victoria, Netball Victoria, Cricket Australia and the Tallangatta Secondary College.
The project was constructed by Barton Street Developers and officially opened on Sunday May 4, 2014.
