| A new Saddle Net, Boat Rocker and Funky Stick are now part of the new $60,000 playground re-development at Tallangatta. The children’s playground has proven to be a great asset to the town and is a key attraction to the increasing number of visitors who frequent the area. “My husband and I run a very busy Takeaway shop and remain constantly amazed at how many young families frequent the park from Albury Wodonga on the weekends. It’s nice to see some new play equipment for both the locals and visitors.” said Jenny McCoy, Tallangatta Takeaway. The redevelopment of the playground includes new play equipment, new shade sails, concrete edging to replace the old pine logs, and rubber surfacing for swings and slides to promote a safer playing environment for children. “It’s been an exciting project to work on. As a local family man I know my children are going to be asking me to bring them into to town for a picnic and a bit of a play.” said Brendon Attree, Project Coordinator, Towong Shire Council. The playground redevelopment has centralised six previously segregated areas and minimised risk by removing old pine logs and upgrading equipment. “The redevelopment was flagged by Towong Shire Council as a priority in the 2007-2011 Council Plan and has been completed well ahead of schedule. The new play equipment will be a tremendous asset to the township of Tallangatta.” said the Mayor, Mary Fraser. Council contractors Playquip, have provided a valuable insight into the dynamics of a successful playground with local and regional school and kindergarten children and their respective families to benefit from the improvements.
