News>Dr2Oz following up leads from New Zealand promotion
| The innovative Dr2Oz campaign, led by Towong Shire Council and Tallangatta Health Service, was recently promoted at the New Zealand Jobs Expo in Auckland and received a strong response from international medical practitioners interested in relocating to the Upper Murray and Southern NSW.
The campaign, aimed at attracting GPs, Division 1 Nurses, Dentists and allied health professionals, was developed in response to the challenges faced by smaller rural health organisations, such as Tallangatta Health Service and the Walwa Bush Nursing Centre, in securing suitable medical professionals.
Strategic partnerships have been formed with the Gardens Medical Group, Walwa Bush Nursing Centre, Bogong Training and Tumbarumba Shire Council and Health Services who all have supported the international campaign promoting the benefits of working in our region.
Dr2Oz offers interested health professionals information to support a move to our region such as medical registration requirements and immigration information. Grace Removals Australia is also a campaign partner offering relocation assistance to prospective recruits.
At the New Zealand Jobs Expo, the Dr2Oz team facilitated two seminars promoting the flexible and supportive working and family arrangements available to medical practitioners in the Upper Murray/Southern NSW region. “The real point of difference in our Dr2Oz campaign is the fact that we were able to cover all aspects of a complete change of lifestyle” said Cr. Peter Joyce, Mayor Towong Shire and member of the New Zealand delegation. “We focused on how medical professionals can achieve a real work/life balance and on the flexible working opportunities available across the region”.
Dr2Oz has numerous leads to follow up after speaking to medical professionals over the two days at the NZ Job Expo. “The strong response included discussions with more than 125 GPs, Occupational Therapists, Dentists, Nursing Staff, Plastic Surgeons and other leading Allied Health Professionals” said Wes Carter, CEO, Tallangatta Health Service.
This marketing exercise reinforced the need for the Dr2Oz team to remain innovative and to continue to demonstrate leadership in medical recruitment. The feedback received from people in New Zealand was that Dr2Oz offers a complete package, including ongoing training and educational pathways.
“The New Zealanders were impressed by having the opportunity to meet the Mayor of Towong Shire and by the support being shown by Tumbarumba and Towong Shires” said Mr. Carter.
“I was proud to be part of the delegation to New Zealand and believe it was a very worthwhile exercise. I already consider the Dr2Oz campaign a success story because of the strong partnerships that have been formed between likeminded organisations with a common goal” said Cr. Peter Joyce, Mayor Towong Shire. “The marketing tools developed, such as the website and promotional DVD, are a real asset in attracting the right candidates to the right positions. We look forward to welcoming prospective candidates in forthcoming months”.
Dr2Oz will now work closely with applicants, the Department of Immigration and Grace Removals to assist interested parties with their relocation needs and to enable an easy transition and warm welcome to the community life of North East Victoria and Southern NSW.
