Your future life in ‘Our Bellbridge’ - 20/2/2012  Printer Friendly

A Community Open Day to launch the community planning project, ‘Our Bellbridge’, will be held on Sunday February 26 at the Hume Boat Club. With a complimentary BBQ, refreshments and a jumping castle for the kids, Council hopes that many residents from Bellbridge and the surrounding community will attend and start the conversation about the future of Bellbridge.

“Bellbridge is a unique community with many strengths,” said Cr Debi Gadd, Towong Shire Council Mayor. “A picturesque location positioned so close to Albury/Wodonga provides Bellbridge with opportunities to grow and develop over time. Through the Our Bellbridge project, the community will be able to have their say about the future of their town.”

Project consultants, ClarkeHopkinsClarke and OneCollective Urban Design Studio, will develop a specific and achievable Masterplan to shape the future of Bellbridge through a comprehensive community and stakeholder engagement process. Considering factors such as housing and land; community services; recreation and leisure opportunities; streetscapes and public space; the Our Bellbridge project will explore options to ensure that Bellbridge can reach its full potential as a vibrant lakeside town.

Surveys are currently being distributed throughout the community that will provide the project team with a preliminary understanding of the residents’ current views of their town. Then from 12noon, Sunday February 26, Council and the project team will meet with the community at the Hume Boat Club to discuss the project in more detail.

Throughout the project, residents can check the progress of Our Bellbridge online at www.ourbellbridge.com.au or by visiting the project’s display space at the Bellbridge Lake Hume Shop.

At the end of the project, a Masterplan to guide the future of Bellbridge will be presented to Council and the community and will include concept drawings, costings and an achievable plan to implement the project recommendations.

“This is a very exciting project for the Bellbridge community; this is their opportunity to shape the future of the place that they live in,” said Cr Gadd. “It would be great to see as many as possible participate; individuals, families, community groups and businesses.”
