| Towong Shire residents will be able to clear out their unwanted, bulky televisions and computer equipment and take advantage of the free recycling service Council is offering during the month of July.
“Unused and outdated electronic equipment, like TVs and computers, can take up lots of space in the home and in some instances, people are just not sure of what they should do with them,” said Cr Phillip Coysh of Towong Shire Council and Board Member of the North East Victorian Waste Management Group, NevRwaste. “Council understands that this is especially the case since many took the opportunity to upgrade their TVs when digital television was introduced in this area,” said Cr Coysh.
Recycling computers and televisions not only diverts bulky hard waste from landfill but also allows for some of their valuable components to be recovered and reused.
“To support the appropriate disposal of electronic waste, Council is pleased to offer our residents a free television and computer disposal program this July,” said Cr Coysh.
The Corryong Landfill, Tallangatta Transfer Station and Wodonga Transfer Station will accept all televisions and computers free during the month of July. Residents must be able to present proof of identity as a resident of Towong Shire.
Elderly or residents who are infirm can also participate in this program by contacting a local service club who will arrange to collect these unwanted items from their homes.
“The generous support from the Corryong Lions Club and the Tallangatta Rotary Club means that everyone in the community can take advantage of this opportunity to dispose of their old televisions and computers, even if they are not physically capable of taking it to one of the facilities themselves,” said Cr Coysh.
Elderly or infirm residents can contact Lorraine Griffiths, Corryong Lions Club on 02 6076 1509 or Charles Knight, Tallangatta Rotary Club on 02 6071 5120 to make collection arrangements. | |
