| The Upper Murray community celebrated following Minister Hugh Delahunty’s recent announcement that the Cudgewa Multi-purpose Facility would soon become a reality. Minister Delahunty met with Council and a crowd of project supporters gathered at the Cudgewa Recreation Reserve to announce the Victorian Government’s funding commitment of $230,000 to the project.
Towong Shire Council Mayor, Cr Debi Gadd, said that Council had been working with the users of the Cudgewa Recreation Reserve to develop a solution for some time.
“The existing facilities at the Corryong Recreation Reserve really are sub-standard and there are no changing facilities for female players at all,” said Cr Gadd. “After a process involving all the current user groups as well as looking at potential new users of the facility, Council and the community developed a realistic proposal for Cudgewa that will meet pressing current needs as well as cater for an increase in usage into the future,”
The Cudgewa Multi-purpose Facility will be an attractive new addition that will house change rooms, public amenities and facilities for a range of uses. Integrating sustainable and accessible design elements into its construction will ensure that everyone in the community can enjoy the facility for many years.
“The community is really to be commended for their support for the project with $50,000 of community funds raised for the project,” said Cr Gadd. ‘The community has also made a commitment of significant in-kind support that is valued at over $50,000,” said Cr Gadd.
Together with Council’s contribution of $100,000 and a contribution from Bendigo Bank of $10,000, the total project value for the new Cudgewa Multi-purpose Facility is over $440,000.
Detailed plans and construction drawings for the new facility will be developed before the end of 2012 with construction scheduled to commence in 2013.
