News>Spring is the season for seniors
| Towong Shire seniors are invited to join Council in celebrating the 2012 Victorian Seniors Festival this spring at two special events being held in Corryong and Tallangatta. Corryong will host the comedy production, ‘The Jinglists’, on 27 September and humorous, yet thought provoking play, ‘The Empty Chair’ will be presented in Tallangatta on 19 October.
“Council is delighted to once again celebrate the Victorian Seniors Festival and this year we are very excited to be able to present two acclaimed plays right here in our Shire,” said Cr Debi Gadd, Towong Shire Council Mayor.
For $10, seniors can catch up with other like-minded seniors, enjoy a performance and share some light refreshments afterwards. Seniors from across the Shire are welcome to attend both events, with transport on offer from Tallangatta to the Corryong performance and from Corryong to the Tallangatta performance.
“Even though Towong Shire is a long way from Broadway, great cultural activities are available to Towong Shire seniors, especially this spring courtesy of the Victorian Seniors Festival,” said Cr Gadd.
‘The Jinglists’, presented by Critical Stages and Garnet Productions, is the story of step-brothers and jingle-writing geniuses, Leigh and Loman. Despite having not left their apartment in 30 years, they have lived and worked in relative harmony in the search of the perfect jingle. That is until one day when they glimpse the girl of their dreams through the mail-hole of their apartment door.
‘The Jinglists’ will be performed at the Corryong Memorial Hall at 11am on Thursday 27 September.
‘The Empty Chair’, a heart warming comedy about dementia, was written by Alan Hopgood in collaboration with Molly Calile. The family meets for the first Christmas lunch without the mother, Rose, whose absence is marked by an empty chair. And as the father begins to display some eccentricities, the family realises that they may soon lose him to dementia.
‘The Empty Chair’ will be performed at the Tallangatta Memorial Hall at 2pm on Friday 19 October.
Bookings for ‘The Jinglists’ and ‘The Empty Chair’ are essential and payments will be taken at the time of booking. | |
