Register for 'Are you bogged mate' Men’s Roast Dinner
Towong Shire Council is bringing Mary O'Brien of 'Are you bogged mate?' back to the Upper Murray to talk about men's mental health, 'the mongrel black dog' and suicide.
"It’s like being bogged, sometimes you can pull yourself out and sometimes you can't " says Mary O’Brien, an agronomist from Dalby in Queensland. She founded the program after losing two mates to drought-related suicide.
She has spent her life working in rural and remote Australia and says there’s a disconnect in the way depression is being communicated to rural men.
- When: Men's Roast Dinner at 7pm on Monday 14 February
- Where: Upper Murray Community Hub, cnr Donaldson Street and Towong Road, Corryong
Men are encouraged to bring a young male with them (15 years and older).
Council’s Mayor Andrew Whitehead encouraged Upper Murray men to come along to the workshops.
“We had a huge response to Mary’s last visit to the Upper Murray, but I know many of our community missed the chance to take part. We’re pleased to welcome Mary back and to give community members another chance to attend. Mental health is an ongoing conversation - it’s important to continue to come together to support each other,” he said.
