Towong Shire Council has secured $320,000 through the Victorian Government’s 2024–25 Living Libraries Infrastructure Program to upgrade and internally renovate the Corryong Elyne Mitchell Library.
Funded through the Department of Government Services, the project will transform the library into a modern, flexible and welcoming community hub for Corryong and the wider Upper Murray region.
This investment follows an extensive community consultation process and reflects the aspirations of residents for a more functional and engaging public space. The internal renovation will focus on enhancing learning, connection and access, with improvements to surface finishes, acoustic treatments, technology and internal layout.
Key features of the upgrade include:

Dedicated quiet working spaces and online learning zones to support skill development

A private meeting room to accommodate one-on-one meetings and telehealth services

Improved layout and integration with the rear meeting room to enhance use of quiet spaces and facilitate outreach training

Flexible program areas to expand community, collaborative and early years programming
“By investing in our library, we’re investing in the future of our community, in education, connection and opportunity,” said Mayor Whitehead. Works are expected to begin later this year.
