A major redevelopment is underway at the Tallandoon Recreation Reserve, with works now well advanced that will transform the only competition-level tennis courts in the Mitta Valley.
Originally constructed in 1963, the courts have long served as a gathering place for local players and families. Now, over 60 years later, the site is being renewed with modern facilities to support the future of tennis in the region.
The upgrade includes the construction of two new acrylic courts, competition-grade lighting, new fencing, and an accessible path linking the courts to the clubrooms.
The project is being delivered by Towong Shire Council with support from the Victorian Government, in partnership with the Tallandoon Tennis Club and the Recreation Reserve Committee.
Towong Shire Council Mayor Andrew Whitehead said the new facilities represent an important investment in both sport and community life.
“These courts have brought people together for decades – not just for tennis, but for social connection. This upgrade ensures that will continue for the next generation,” he said.
Community members gathered recently to mark the beginning of the works, highlighting the strong local support behind the project. Once complete, the new facilities will provide a high-quality venue for local competitions, training, and social matches – as well as encouraging broader participation in active recreation across the Mitta Valley.
Progress updates will be shared through Towong Shire Council’s projects page, where the community can keep track of key milestones as well as other works happening across the Shire.
Construction is expected to continue through to December 2025.
