Towong Shire Council has today elected Councillor Peter Tolsher as Mayor and Councillor Denise Anderson as Deputy Mayor both for one-year terms. Councillor Tolsher has served as Deputy Mayor since the 2024 mayoral elections.
Cr Tolsher has lived in Tallangatta since 1976 and was elected on 26 October 2024. He had previously served as a councillor of Towong Shire Council from 2016 to 2020.
A resident of Towong Shire for 22 years, Cr Anderson was first elected to Council on 24 October 2020 for her first term and re-elected on 26 October 2024.
Cr Tolsher said it was a great honour to be elected Mayor and acknowledged the countless achievements and dedication to the community of outgoing Mayor Cr Andrew Whitehead.
“I am very honoured to be elected Mayor of Towong Shire Council and am looking forward to leading Council for the next 12 months. We have an ambitious Council Plan for 2025-2029 and we will now get on with the job of delivering on this Plan for our communities.
“Council can point to a long list of achievements in recent years, and we are committed to doing what we can to achieve our Community Vision of Towong Shire being the ideal place to be.
“I would like to formally acknowledge Cr Andrew Whitehead and note the enormous contribution he has made to the Towong community particularly across the previous four years. The long list of achievements ticked off during his time as Mayor are part of his proud legacy and on behalf of my fellow councillors, I sincerely thank Andrew for his tireless work and commitment on behalf of the entire community which will no doubt continue in the coming years.”
Deputy Mayor Councillor Denise Anderson said: “It is a great privilege to be elected Deputy Mayor of Towong Shire Council. I would also like to acknowledge the enormous contribution Cr Andrew Whitehead has made to the community across the four years he has been Mayor. I am looking forward to working with our newly elected Mayor, building on the achievements of recent years as we implement our new Council Plan 2025-2029.”
