Towong Shire Council Mayor, Cr Peter Tolsher today officially opened the new Snack Shack container café and Walking Trail in Bellbridge.
Mayor Tolsher said the new Snack Shack and Walking Trail are wonderful new additions to the Bellbridge landscape that will have wide ranging benefits for locals and Towong Shire.
“The Snack Shack and new 4.2km Walking Trail will provide new ways for the Bellbridge community to come together to connect, relax, and exercise whilst taking in the world class views of Lake Hume,” Cr Tolsher said.
Deputy Mayor Cr Denise Anderson said: “Not only will the local community enjoy the benefits of these two new attractions, importantly they will also attract visitors, tourists and potential investors to Bellbridge and provide a gateway to the many other attractions throughout Towong Shire.”
In 2024, Towong Shire Council engaged with communities across the Shire to develop 10-year ‘Our Towns’ place plans. These plans are Councils strategic blueprints for how Bellbridge (and Walwa, Tallangatta, Corryong, and Mitta Mitta) will grow and develop over the next decade.
“The Bellbridge Our Town Place Plan identifies the importance of enhancing recreational and economic opportunities in the area and we believe the new Walking Trail and Snack Shack container café will do exactly this by providing welcoming spaces for residents and visitors to gather, relax, and enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Hume,” Cr Tolsher said.
“Towong Shire Council has invested significantly in Bellbridge recognising its importance as a growing and desired residential area as well as a recreation and tourism destination. The Snack Shack and the Walking Trail show that great things can happen when Councils and communities work together.”
After evaluating expressions of interest, on 6 November 2025, Towong Shire Council announced Dylan Connell as the operator of the Bellbridge Container Café. Well known as the operator of the popular ‘The Brekkie Box’ in Wodonga, Dylan will bring a wealth of experience and local knowledge to the daily operation of the Snack Shack in Bellbridge.
“I am very excited that opening day has now arrived for the Snack Shack and I am looking forward to getting to know the locals who I am hoping quickly become regulars.
“The location of the Snack Shack is amazing with its waterfront views of Lake Hume and its foreshore. And having the experience of setting up The Brekkie Box in Wodonga will mean we are ready to hit the road running here in Bellbridge with a tailored menu and opening hours designed to suit both locals and visitors.
“I would like thank Towong Shire Council for the opportunity to operate the container café and now that we are open for business I am looking forward to exploring ways that the café can support and enhance foreshore activity in Bellbridge,” Dylan said.
Stage 1 of the Walking Trail in Bellbridge was completed in 2023. In 2024, work on stages 2 and 3 commenced on the new footpath starting at the park approximately 170 metres south-west of Mitta Avenue, Bellbridge, and continuing through to the Kurrajong Gap Boat Ramp which is on the Victoria side of Lake Hume.
The project was completed in mid-2025, delivering an important recreational and tourism asset for the Bellbridge community and its visitors.
