Builder of Bethanga Sports Pavilion announced

Towong Shire Council today announced that Q1 Constructions Pty Ltd – an award‑winning North East Victoria construction company – is the successful tenderer for the Bethanga Recreation Reserve Pavilion Project.

Towong Shire Council has committed up to $2 million towards the Bethanga Sports Pavilion Project and was successful in securing an additional $1 million in funding through the Victorian State Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund. Local community organisations will also contribute $32,000 to the project.

This project will deliver a new, fully accessible Sports Pavilion with changerooms and amenities for players, officials, volunteers and spectators. It will support existing activities such as cricket, tennis and football, and enable broader community use including for fitness programs, events and emergency training.

Towong Shire Council Mayor Peter Tolsher said:
“Our Council believes it is important for small rural communities to have access to good quality local facilities and infrastructure. The Bethanga Sports Pavilion Project is a substantial Council investment and we are delighted to have Q1 Constructions on board to deliver the project for us.”

“Importantly, the construction of the new sports pavilion in Bethanga will immediately contribute to the regional economy in the North East by generating new jobs and supporting local suppliers. Council was keen to ensure that the successful bidder for this project would prioritise local employment and we are confident that Q1 will deliver on this front,” Mayor Tolsher said.

Based in Wodonga, Q1 Constructions has a strong record of delivering major projects across the North East and in southern New South Wales.

Q1 Constructions Managing Director Phil Palhares said Q1 was honoured to partner with Towong Shire Council on such an important community infrastructure project.

Q1 Constructions has committed to prioritising local trades and suppliers wherever possible.

“We are looking forward to working closely with Council and the Bethanga Recreational Reserve Committee to bring the new Pavilion to life,” Mr Palhares said.

The Bethanga Recreation Reserve serves as the primary recreational facility for the township of Bethanga and the surrounding Peninsula area, including Bellbridge, Talgarno and Granya.

The project has been identified as a priority in the Towong Shire Recreation Strategy, the Bethanga Recreation Reserve Masterplan, and the Council Plan and will deliver a modern, accessible and environmentally sustainable facility to support a wide range of user groups at the Bethanga Recreation Reserve.

“The ageing and now inadequate condition of the existing facility has become a barrier to participation in cricket and tennis, restricted community use, and discouraged local schools from hosting sporting events there. These limitations have prevented the Reserve from being the accessible and welcoming space the community needs,” Mayor Tolsher said.

“The new sports pavilion will address this by delivering a modern, accessible and environmentally sustainable facility that will support a wide range of user groups and benefit the entire Bethanga community for many years to come.”

The project has been shaped by several years of community consultation and collaboration between Towong Shire Council, the Bethanga Recreation Reserve Committee, the Sports Pavilion Project Reference Group, Sport and Recreation Victoria, Cricket Albury Wodonga, Tennis Victoria and Four18 Architecture.

“This is a major milestone for this project. Everyone connected to the Reserve, from the players, local community groups, committee members and volunteers are just so excited that works are about to commence. We are extremely grateful to Towong Shire Council and the Victorian State Government for supporting the Bethanga Sports Pavilion project.”

Site works will commence this month.
