Towong Shire Council Deputy Mayor, Cr Denise Anderson, will tomorrow open the new female-friendly facility at the Bullioh-Wyeeboo Recreation Reserve.
Cr Anderson said: “This project is a wonderful example of what can be achieved through strong partnerships between Council, local clubs, dedicated volunteers and the wider community.
“The new facilities in Bullioh-Wyeeboo will absolutely transform the game-day experiences for players, volunteers and spectators alike whilst providing modern infrastructure that will support local sport and community connection for future generations.”
Towong Shire Council delivered the project with a final investment of just under $700,000 which included $250,000 in funding Council secured through the Victorian Government’s Country Football and Netball Program.
The project has delivered a completely new and modern pavilion inclusive of accessible player changerooms, umpires changerooms, accessible amenities, a small administration and multi-purpose space and storage all designed to align with Netball Victoria guidelines which incorporates female friendly design principles.
“Before this new development, the facilities at Bullioh-Wyeeboo were aged, inadequate and created genuine barriers to participation, particularly for women and girls. Council is delighted that this project removes those barriers and creates a more inclusive female and family-friendly, and overall, much more enjoyable sporting environment for everyone.
“In addition to encouraging greater female and junior participation, the new facility will help support future club growth and strengthen social connection right across our region. For Council this is about far more than bricks and mortar – it is an investment in inclusion, wellbeing, and the future of community sport in our Shire,” Cr Anderson said.
Council would like to thank the Victorian Government for their contribution to the Project via the Country Football and Netball Program which is delivered by the State in partnership with the AFL, AFL Victoria, and Netball Victoria.
Council would also like to acknowledge and commend the hard work and significant contribution made by the Bullioh Football Netball Club towards the project. Mr Shayne Ried, President of the Football Netball Club, contributed an enormous amount of his own time and effort to help bring this vision to life.
Council also would like to acknowledge Mr Andrew Randell, Director of Barton St. Developments, who oversaw the construction of the building and helped deliver an outstanding facility.
