About the project
Council have secured funding through the Australian Government’ Bridges Renewal Program and Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program for the realignment of Corryong’s heavy vehicle bypass along the Stock Route.
Following the upgrade of Hanson Street Corryong, which included the installation of two roundabouts, there has been a strong community push combined with advocacy efforts from Council to secure funding to upgrade the existing Corryong Stock Route.
The current Stock Route is unsealed and positioned on the outskirts of town, on the Mount Mittamatite side of Hanson Street.
The upgrade of the Stock Route will include sealing the road and making it suitable for large B-Double trucks, including the removal of tight bends. The upgrade will allow trucks to use the alternative route rather than the main street, which is considered a safety concern.
Community members, including agriculture and business representatives and truck drivers, have been consulted on the preferred route of the project.
Construction of the upgrade is expected to commence in early 2023.
The final plans are available below.
Project Update- February 2023
We’re moving closer to removing heavy vehicle traffic from the main street of Corryong.
Minor works along the stock route have commenced to prepare the road for upgrades including widening of tight bends to make it suitable for B-double trucks.
Upgrades will be done in sections and we expect to have the project completed by mid year (pending poor weather).
All works will pause during the Man From Snowy River Festival in April.
During construction parts of the road will be open to local traffic only.
