Name Tallangatta Foreshore

The purpose of the competition is to name the area colloquially called the Pelican Park, adjacent to the boat ramp in Tallangatta.


The competition process will involve 2 stages.

Stage 1 will call for name suggestions. Suggestions will be collated by Council officers. Repeated names and names that do not comply with statutory requirements will be removed.

Stage 2 will ask the community to vote on the remaining list of names.

In case of a tied vote, a second round of voting involving the three most popular names will be held. A Council report will be prepared seeking Council endorsement for the name change. Following Council adoption, an application will be made to the Geographical Names Board.


  1. There is no material or monetary “prize” for this competition. The “prize” for this competition is the honour of providing the name for the Park

  2. The competition is open to anyone living in the Tallangatta community

  3. The competition commences 16 January 2018

  4. Entries for name suggestions close 5pm, Friday 9 February 2018

  5. No name entry is valid unless it provides the entrants full name, email address and phone number

  6. Naming suggestions must comply with “Naming rules for places in Victoria: Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities”, Office of Geographic Names, 2016.

  7. Naming suggestions may be submitted:

    • Via completion of an entry form submitted at the Mad Hatters Tea Party event held at the site, 16 January.
    • Via email to
    • Via the posting box situated at the Tallangatta Pharmacy
  8. An entrant can submit multiple naming suggestions

  9. Voting for name suggestions commences Monday 12 February and close 5pm Friday 2 March

  10. The winning entry will be selected by a popular vote held via electronic survey held between Monday 12 February and 5pm Friday 2 March

  11. The most voted for option will be declared the “winner”

  12. In the case of a tied vote, an electronic poll will be held to determine the winner

  13. The winner will be notified via email

  14. Unsuccessful naming suggestions may be retained for naming other roads, features or localities throughout the shore

  15. Council collects entrants' personal information in order to conduct the competition. By entering the promotion, unless otherwise advised, each entrant also agrees that Council may use this information in any media, promotional, marketing and publicity purposes in relation to the competition without payment or other compensation to the entrant.

  16. Entrants agree to be bound to these Terms and Conditions when entering the Competition.
