Towong Shire

Towong Alliance

The Towong Alliance was established in 2011 by the Tallangatta Health Service, Walwa Bush Nursing Centre, Upper Murray Health and Community Services and Towong Shire Council. The Towong Alliance aims to respond to and improve the health and wellbeing of the local community through enhancing service effectiveness, efficiency and capacity as a result of a collaborative approach to planning.

The Towong Healthy Communities Plan represents the strategic direction for the Alliance. The Plan also informs individual Towong Alliance agency plans including the 2013 – 2017 Towong Shire Council Plan and service planning for the Upper Murray Health and Community Services, Tallangatta Health Service and Walwa Bush Nursing Centre.

The Towong Alliance recognises good health as an important resource for everyday life - a positive concept that embraces not only a healthy lifestyle but also community and personal wellbeing.  Issues being investigated by the Alliance include such things as access to health professionals, community transport, social isolation, the health of our environment, unemployment and mental health.

The development of the Towong Healthy Communities Plan supports the ability of the Towong Alliance, stakeholders and individuals to influence a positive change in the health and wellbeing of the Towong Shire community by addressing issues around the Social Determinants of Health and Environments for Health.
