Tallangatta Holiday Park Planning Study

Tallangatta Holiday Park Planning Study

The Tallangatta Holiday Park is located in the township of Tallangatta, in a prime location on the foreshore of Lake Hume featuringĀ 45 annual, 5 permanent, 75 powered sites and 25 camp sites.Ā The land is owned Victorian Government and its management and control is overseen the Goulburn Murray Water Authority (GMW).

Historically a popular holiday destination for young families and older people, the park has experienced a significant downturn in visitation over the past ten years, during a prolonged period of drought and very low water levels in Lake Hume.

A corresponding lack of investment over those years has impacted on the quality and quantity of amenities on the site. Through the extensive community engagement that occurred while the Tallangatta Tomorrow Masterplan was being developed, it became clear that the Park is viewed as an important community asset.

Towong Shire Council is interested in the Parkā€™s future and is consideringĀ available options that couldĀ reinvent the park as a vibrant business. Council engaged Southern Cross Parks, highly experienced consultants in the field of park management and operations, to investigate the potential of the Tallangatta Holiday Park as a key economic, tourism and social asset for Tallangatta.Ā

The Tallangatta Holiday Park Planning Study

Southern Cross Parks completed a thorough analysis of the park, itsĀ target markets, demand and potential futureĀ concepts. Their study also establishes the framework for future development of infrastructure and suggests proven successful operational and business models.Ā

As part of the report, Southern Cross Parks conducted extensive consultation with stakeholders and guests (past and present) to ascertain what improvements could be made to the park. Suggestions included new toilets, new cabins, level drive-through sites, new camp kitchen, installation of a playground and overall better presentation of the park.Ā

The vision for the park is supported by a series of management objectives, a change in the site use to include more onsite accommodation options, new relocatable amenities/camp kitchen, drive-through powered sites and a master plan which includes a range of capital works improvements.

The study is complete and is now available for download
