Towong Shire

The Towong Shire is located in North East Victoria near the major regional centre of Albury Wodonga on the Hume Freeway corridor. The region is home to the Man from Snowy River legend, the untamed headwaters of the mighty Murray River and the Lakes of Dartmouth and Hume, both integral to the Murray Darling Basin.

A destination blessed with natural beauty and the authentic charm of high country Australia, its main townships are Corryong and Tallangatta.  Its villages, characters and lifestyle are the essence of the rugged Australia depicted in Banjo Patterson’s poem of 1890.
