Wild dogs are found throughout parts of north-east Victoria and can have serious impacts on livestock, native wildlife, and biodiversity. In some areas, they also pose a risk to domestic pets and rural communities.
Wild dog management is not the responsibility of Towong Shire Council. It is coordinated by the following Victorian Government agencies:
- Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) – formerly DELWP
- Agriculture Victoria
These agencies work together to implement integrated control programs including baiting, trapping, exclusion fencing, and community-based planning.
