Towong Shire, in far North East Victoria, enjoys some of Australia’s most spectacular environments.
Our unique wilderness areas, lakes, rivers and streams are enjoyed by around 5,985 residents and many more visitors across 6,669 square kilometres. To find out more about Towong Shire's population, visit our Demographics and statistics page.
Our economy revolves around a rich agricultural sector, tourism and timber production and processing. Approximately two-thirds of businesses in the Shire are in the agricultural and forestry industries.
Towong Shire Council is one of the smallest councils in Victoria. We're conscious of making every dollar work for our community to deliver on the objectives, priorities and goals outlined in our Council Plan. It's extremely important to us that our staff, contractors and councillors are focused on organisational performance, efficiency and teamwork.
We spend a lot of time researching our community's priorities and goals. Then, we work closely with the community – as well as state and Commonwealth government funding partners – to turn these goals into reality.
