With winter setting in and a mix of rain, snow and freezing temperatures forecast, we would like to remind the community to be alert for black ice — particularly along the Murray Valley Highway near Shelley and other areas above 500m elevation.
- Black ice can form overnight or early in the morning and is difficult to detect.
- Avoid sudden braking if you hit black ice
- Consider changing your plans when travelling early mornings and the risk of black ice is high
- Learn where to report road issues and hazards
We also advise residents and visitors to take extra care on roads where snow is common, such as the Omeo Highway near the Tallangatta Ski Club and the Benambra–Corryong Road. These routes reach elevations of up to 1300m and regularly receive snow during winter.
