We've answered your key questions about the Corryong Hospital Rally – what it’s about, why it matters, and how you can get involved.
What is the rally?
It’s about the Corryong community (and the wider Towong Shire, and North East communities) coming together in one place to show that we don’t accept the current planned redevelopment of the existing Albury Hospital. It is not the best way forward and we need to act now to address this.
What do we want?
We want enough people to attend to show politicians in Melbourne (and Sydney and Canberra too) that we aren’t going to give up the fight for a new hospital. We will not back down until the Victorian Premier and Minister for Health come to the North East and tell us in person why they think the current redevelopment plans will work when medical professionals across the region are so convinced they will not.
We don’t want to play politics. We just want them to listen to what doctors, nurses and other medical professionals who know and understand the North East have to say.
Is it really going to impact me?
Yes! It is about people’s lives, and we think it is the single biggest issue we are facing right now. Border medical professionals are adamant that the North East needs a brand new hospital on a new greenfield site. The solution is not new floors stacked on top of the already cramped Albury Hospital.
What will happen at the rally?
You will hear from Towong Shire Council’s Mayor Andrew Whitehead, North East medical professionals, and your fellow community members. They will all make a strong case for rethinking the current redevelopment proposal. And there will be a free sausage sizzle beforehand at 12 midday!
Why is it so urgent now?
Just this week we have had another “Code Yellow Internal Emergency” declared at Albury Wodonga Health due to what is being referred to as “significant access and flow challenges” at Albury and Wodonga hospitals.
There is no sugar coating this – what it means is that our health service in the North East is currently overwhelmed. Redeveloping the existing Albury Hospital will not fix this situation. It is not the answer the North East deserves. We need to act now before the redevelopment has progressed too far.
