Local organisations, school students and community members gathered in Tallangatta this week to launch the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (25 Nov – 10 Dec), a global campaign raising awareness and advocating for the prevention of violence against women and girls.
The day began with a 9.30 am community walk through the town, finishing at the library for speeches from Councillor Peter Tolsher, Anna Mackinlay (Orange Door) and Jodie Farrugia (Centre Against Violence).
Councillor Tolsher said: “Violence against women and children is not just a private issue – it is a community issue. By standing together, we send a powerful message that violence is never acceptable.”
Local family violence specialists also presented, showcasing services and support available across the region.
A second event will be held in Corryong on Monday 8 December at 10.00 am.
