On Wednesday afternoon 17/12, the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe heatwave warning for the North East (as well as Northern Country, East Gippsland, West and South Gippsland and North Central).
Severe heatwave conditions are currently developing and are expected to peak on Thursday and Friday before likely easing into the weekend.
Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people in our community but especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as people with medical conditions and people who are unwell. Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre, and shops.
Visit our special heatwave page for more advice on how to manage in the heat in the next few days.
