Towong Shire Council gives notice under Section 206 and Schedule 10 of the Local Government Act 1989 and Section 114 of the Local Government Act 2020 that it proposes to deviate a section of unused Government Road adjoining 1033 Lake Road, Bethanga (Lot 2/PS603127), shown as ‘hatched’ on the attached Plan of Road Exchange.
The proposal involves the deviation of a section of unused Government Road and an exchange of land with the adjoining landowner to remove inconsistencies in the property boundary. The land to be transferred to Council is shown as ‘cross-hatched’ on the attached Plan of Road Exchange.
The proposal is that Council:
- Deviate a section of unused Government Road adjoining 1033 Lake Road, Bethanga (Lot 2/PS603127), shown as hatched on the Plan of Road Exchange.
- Authorise the Chief Executive Officer to make the proposed road deviation and land exchange available for public inspection and to invite public submissions.
A copy of the Plan of Road Exchange is available for inspection at Council’s offices at 32 Towong Street, Tallangatta or 76 Hanson Street, Corryong. A person may make a submission on the proposal.
Any person proposing to make a submission under Section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989 must do so by 5pm on Friday, 9 October 2026. All submissions will be considered in accordance with Section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989.
Submissions should be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer and can be delivered to one of Council’s Offices at 32 Towong Street, Tallangatta or 76 Hanson Street, Corryong.

Any person requesting to be heard in support their submission is entitled to be heard before Council (or a committee established by Council for this purpose) or be represented by a person acting on their behalf and will be notified of the time and date of the hearing.
After considering all submissions, Council will decide whether to proceed with the proposal.
