Hard waste and green waste
Towong Shire will again run a hard and green waste collection service at the locations and times listed below.
Important notes:
- There are changes to locations and operating times compared to previous years.
- Dumping of waste at the nominated sites outside the specified collection times is illegal. Offenders will be prosecuted.
What do we collect?
Council accepts standard trailer or Ute loads of non-commercial hard waste:

- Couches, stoves, old fencing wire, timber, steel and glass
- E-waste, fridges and air conditioners need to be kept separate from hard waste materials and placed outside designated skip bins where provided. (Please follow directions of operator)
- Non-decomposable, non-hazardous solid wastes
Council also accepts non-commercial green waste including:
- Branches up to 25 cm (10 inches) in diameter
- Lawn clippings
- Paper and plastic
What don't we collect?
Council does not accept the following at hard-waste drop-offs:
- mattresses, bed bases, batteries, tyres, LPG cylinders, chemicals, oils
- Asbestos or asbestos-containing materials, or any other potentially hazardous material
Non-commercial quantities of items such as mattresses, bed bases, batteries, tyres, LPG cylinders, chemicals and oils can be dropped off at the Corryong and Tallangatta Resource Recovery Centres.
Collection dates and locations
The service runs strictly on a pre-booked basis. All bookings must be made on or before Wednesday by 4.45 pm to enable Council to plan and allocate sufficient resources.
The booking system is compulsory. Residents will be issued with a booking number and appointment time. No booking number – no service.

Vouchers and payment
Waste vouchers issued with Rates Notices can be redeemed, or charges will apply as set out in the Schedule of Fees and Charges 2025/2026, available on Council’s website.
Residents may also use their waste vouchers at the Corryong Resource Recovery Centre or the Tallangatta or Wodonga Transfer Stations at any time.
