Dartmouth Reservoir
Dartmouth Reservoir is one of Victoria’s largest inland lakes, offering deep, cool waters ideal for trout fishing. Anglers frequently catch brown and rainbow trout, with occasional Macquarie perch and blackfish also present. Boat access is available, or you can fish from the shore near the boat ramp.
Lake Hume
Lake Hume is a well-known destination for freshwater fishing with the towns of Tallangatta and Bellbridge sitting on it's shoreline. It supports healthy populations of Murray cod, golden perch, redfin, and trout. The extensive shoreline and varied depths make it suitable for land-based or boat fishing.
Mitta Mitta River
Flowing from the Alpine region, the Mitta Mitta River is known for its clear waters and quality trout fishing. Both fly and lure fishing are popular here, especially in the upper reaches. Lower sections also offer opportunities to catch native species such as Murray cod and trout cod.
Murray River
The Murray River winds along Towong Shire’s northern boundary and is a popular choice for fishing. It’s home to native fish including Murray cod and golden perch, with sections offering calm spots ideal for families or beginners. The river also hosts a range of camping areas.

Boating on Lake Hume
Lake Hume is a popular location for boating activities, including water skiing, wakeboarding, and kayaking. Boat ramps are accessible at both Bellbridge and Tallangatta (when water levels are above 50%), offering convenient launch points and plenty of open water.
