Poetry Slam is back in Towong Shire in 2026, with a creative workshop and live competition coming to Corryong Library this August.
Presented by Word Travels, Australian Poetry Slam (APS) is one of Australia’s largest spoken word and performance poetry programs, helping emerging writers and performers share their stories on stage since 2007.
Whether you are a first-time poet, experienced performer or simply love powerful storytelling, APS invites the community to get involved.
APS Workshop with Andrew Cox
Award-winning spoken word artist Andrew Cox will lead a hands-on workshop designed to help participants develop ideas, shape stories and build confidence in spoken word performance.

Towong Shire Heat featuring Andrew Cox
Step up to the mic or cheer on local poets as they compete in the Towong Shire Heat of the Australian Poetry Slam.
Competitors will have two minutes to perform original poems in front of a live audience, with two local writers progressing to the Victoria State Final. Top performers from across Australia will then compete at the National Final at the Sydney Opera House.

About the Host
Andrew Cox is a Filipino/Australian poet based on Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country who leads the Canberra Poetry Slam, one of Australia’s largest regular performance poetry programs. His work has been featured nationally and internationally, including at the Singapore Writers Festival.
