Bethanga Recreation Reserve Pavilion
About the project
This project will deliver a new, fully accessible Sports Pavilion with changerooms and amenities for players, officials, volunteers and spectators. It will support existing activities such as cricket, tennis and football, and enable broader community use including for fitness programs, events, and emergency training.
Council has committed a significant $2,000,000 to the project. This is the most Council has ever committed to a community facility project and demonstrates just how important the project is.
The Victorian State Government will contribute $1,000,000 from the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund to the project and local community groups including including the Bethanga Cricket Club, Bethanga Tennis Club, Gymkhana Committee, and SR500 Club Committee, are also contributing financially to help make this project a reality.
Bethanga Recreation Reserve is the only full-size sports oval serving Bethanga, Bellbridge, Talgarno and Granya. The new Pavilion will improve safety, increase participation, and support better health and wellbeing across the region.
Why is this project being undertaken?
Council has recognised that Bethanga is the one remaining township in Towong Shire yet to receive a major Recreation Reserve infrastructure development and prioritised this project for grant funding together with significant financial investment by Council.
Bethanga Recreation Reserve is the key recreational facility for the rural township of Bethanga. The Reserve facilities also serve the surrounding Peninsula area of Towong Shire, incorporating Bellbridge, Talgarno and Granya. The Bethanga Recreation Reserve Committee of Management have been very active in working with Council and other stakeholders in developing this project.
The Bethanga Sports Pavilion is one of the biggest projects to be delivered by Council over the coming years and will be managed alongside several other priority projects that have been scheduled for delivery in the last half of 2025 and early 2026, such as Tallandoon Tennis Courts Redevelopment, Bullioh Recreation Reserve Female Friendly Facility and Cudgewa Recreation Reserve Lighting upgrade.

Preparation Stages
Detailed design work was completed prior to applying for project funding. Council invested funding into community consultation and the development of detailed design documentation.
June 2025
Towong Shire Council secured $1 million from the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.
August 2025
The tender process to appoint a contractor for this significant infrastructure project is anticipated to commence in late 2025. Due to the scale and complexity of the works, the procurement phase is expected to take several months.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2026, with project completion targeted for mid to late 2027. These timeframes align with the funding arrangements agreed upon with the Victorian Government.
November 2025
Towong Shire Council invited tenders for the Bethanga Sports Pavilion Construction project on 7 November 2025, with submissions closing at 3:00 pm on 9 December 2025.
March 2026
Towong Shire Council announced Q1 Constructions Pty Ltd as the successful tenderer for the Bethanga Recreation Reserve Pavilion project. Site works will commence this month.
May 2026
Blinding concrete for the footings has been poured, with slab pour one completed and slab pour two scheduled ahead of framing works commencing onsite.
