Tallandoon Tennis Courts Redevelopment
About the project
The project will transform the tennis experience for players and spectators through the establishment of two new courts with acrylic surfaces, competition standard lighting, new tennis fencing, and an accessible path linking the courts to the existing clubroom building.
Why is this project being undertaken?
The concrete tennis courts and associated infrastructure are in serious disrepair and urgent need of renewal with it’s most recent court having been built in 1963.
The Tallandoon Tennis Courts (two courts) are located on the Tallandoon Recreation Reserve and is the only operating tennis club in the Mitta Valley. The reserve and tennis courts play a vital role in providing the Tallandoon and wider Mitta Valley community with opportunities for organised sporting activities, active recreation, and social interaction.
The redevelopment of the Tallandoon Tennis Courts supports Council Plan 2021–2025 objectives 2.2, 3.1 and 3.2 by enhancing our community’s access to safe, modern recreation facilities and strengthening the vibrancy of our smaller townships.
Benefits of the project
The Tallandoon Tennis Club and other local community groups have worked cooperatively with Council over several years to develop this exciting project which will generate great benefit and opportunities for current and future participation.
The strong community spirit that exists locally to sustain the Tallandoon Tennis Club is considerable, and the driving force behind the development of this vital project. However, the current state of the tennis courts at Tallandoon is impacting heavily on participation rates and limiting opportunities for both locals and visitors to engage in competition and informal tennis activity.
Project funding and partners
Council has received State Government funding through the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Funding program towards the project.
The Tallandoon Tennis Club and Recreation Reserve Committee of Management are contributing cash and in-kind to this project including the demolition of the existing courts, lighting, fencing and associated infrastructure which was completed in mid-July.
