Corryong Elyne Mitchell Library Upgrade
About the project
Towong Shire Council is upgrading the Corryong Elyne Mitchell Library, thanks to $320,000 in funding secured through the Victorian Department of Government Services under the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program 2024-25.
This project will deliver a modern, flexible and inclusive community facility for Corryong and the wider Upper Murray region. The upgrade will improve access to learning and technology, provide new quiet and collaborative spaces, and support a wide range of community uses.
The design was developed by Eames Architects in close collaboration with community members and stakeholders through a series of workshops and consultation activities in February and March 2025.
Why is this project being undertaken?
This project directly supports Action 2.5 of Towong Shire's Council Plan 2021–2025. To "promote opportunities for communities to access libraries to be a community connection hub and educational resource".
Benefits of the library upgrade include:
- A new reading room and quiet study spaces
- An early years area with flexible, child-friendly furniture
- A small private meeting room for telehealth and confidential use
- Improved acoustic treatment, layout and lighting
- Integration with existing rear meeting space to support training and events
- Upgraded technology, including RFID self-service and return equipment
- Furniture and fittings to support collaboration, learning, and inclusion
