Walwa Recreation Reserve
About the project
The Walwa Recreation Reserve project was been identified as a priority by the CFA and the broader community, with the aim of enhancing local resilience and supporting community activities.
Council developed concept plans and delivered upgrades funded through the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grant, reflecting a joint effort to restore and improve community infrastructure following recent bushfire impacts.
Key elements of the upgrade included:
- Construction of a new amenities block (toilets, showers, and storage)
- Installation of undercover storage facilities
- Carpark upgrades to improve access and safety
- Removal of redundant buildings to clear space for the new infrastructure
- Site improvements to support community and emergency use

Project updates
July 2022
Council held a community session on Wednesday 27 July 2022 at Walwa Recreation Reserve from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm. The session allowed community members to hear from and ask questions of the project managers. Those unable to attend were advised to contact Council directly via phone or email to arrange a discussion.
August 2022
Council met with Walwa community members and representatives from the Walwa CFA to discuss the redevelopment and upgrade of the Walwa Recreation Reserve.
The CFA have advised that the Recreation Reserve is one of the locations being considered for their future station.
Topics discussed included:
- The location for the new amenities block
- Improved safety through better and increased lighting. Support for the removal of the unused buildings on site
- The relocation of the caravan dump point. The development of a traffic management plan to support current and future uses of the reserve.
The feedback from the meeting will be incorporated into the final development plans for the reserve.
May 2023
A tender for the construction of a new amenities block (including unisex toilets and showers) at Walwa Recreation Reserve (Tender No. 2022/23‑036) was issued and closed on 14 June 2023.
July 2023
Council held a special meetingand resolved to award the contract to Barton St Developments. This included toilets, showers and storage space.
