Rowen Park Lighting Upgrade
About the project
Rowen Park will soon be lit up and ready for action following the installation of four new light towers, delivering up to 450 lux in the centre square and an average of 324 lux across the playing surface. This lighting level will exceed the AFL regional night football standard (200 lux) and permit Class V night cricket, opening new opportunities for evening sport in Tallangatta.
The project is one of only three funded in rural Victoria outside metropolitan centres, Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo, through the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund. The successful $250,000 grant is matched with significant contributions from Council, local sporting clubs, community groups and generous in-kind support.
Why is this project being undertaken?
This project aligns with the initiatives and objectives in our 2021–2025 Council Plan, aiming to support the development of recreational activities and infrastructure to encourage active lifestyles for people of all ages and stages of life.
The upgraded lighting will:
- Support safe training and competition after dark.
- Enable new sports programming, including night cricket later in 2025 and the first night football match in April 2026.
- Strengthen Rowen Park’s role as a key community sporting and recreation asset.
